Women’s Business on International Women’s Day
Here in central Victoria, the Midland Express newspaper produced a special feature lift out to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day called “Women in Business”.
I was very happy to be invited to be part of this special feature and it was wonderful to see the vast range of women offering various professional services in our region.
Running a business in today’s environment is demanding and challenging given the high cost of living expenses and for women who are also juggling the responsibilities of a home and family life, the time available to take time out for themselves to rest and rejuvenate is very limited; for some non existent. Is this really good enough in a modern society?
Recent reporting of housework distribution from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia Survey showed that in 2022, men spent an average of 12.8 hours per week on housework - exactly the same amount as they did 20 years ago, while women do 50% more! Definitely not good enough.
Whilst these domestic challenges are a significant and ongoing barrier to women’s wellbeing, there are also opportunities for workplaces to better support women by to incorporating time for mental health and wellbeing self-care. Staff wellbeing programs operate in many workplaces and in various formats. It would be great to see more workplaces offer tailored programs for women and for women who run their own businesses to be supported to make time for regular self-care.
My MindSpa@work program can be tailored to suit the needs of your workplace and can incorporate one off wellbeing sessions or a regular program of skill development activities where staff learn strategies and techniques they can use to manage stress, workloads and increase job satisfaction.
As an accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainer, I am also thrilled to be able to offer workplaces a unique program which combines accredited professional development training with my MindSpa@Work program.
This package is called the Mediation Makeover Workplace Wellbeing Package. The package includes the MHFA blended course and a MindSpa@Work session. Participants complete a set of e-learning modules and then attend a 1 day session which includes 4 hours of MHFA and a 2 hour MindSpa.
